Free and Open Source software (FOSS) is pushing its way through the vast terrain of software solutions to the classrooms of innovative and creative art teachers. This internet resource is meant to introduce you to FOSS history and pedagogy as well as resources available to art educators. It is also meant to promote discussions and debate regarding FOSS and its potential for facilitating the best possible education for our students.
A short history
A relatively new paradigm for software development rooted in the idea that information and the technologies that disseminate it should be accessible to everyone. Initially, FOSS software focused its innovations on server applications with much success, and has since expanded to support desktop applications.
Pedagogy
A cost effective alternative to proprietary software and budget breaking upgrades, FOSS offers educators new and creative ways to support curriculum goals.
